Killean Primary School was built in the 1890s to serve the needs of 4 - 11 year old boys and girls living in the Killean area of the Parish of Upper Killeavy. The school is situated in an area of beautiful scenery outside the town of Newry and currenty has an enrolment of 131 pupils. Through the School Enhancement Programme (SEP) the school has had a major refurbishment which  included a new multi purpose hall,  new kitchen facilities, renovations to the interior of the existing building and a new roof on the existing building. The SEP was officially opened by Mr Derek Baker, Permanent Secretary for the Department of Education and Mr Gerry Campbell. Also present at the opening were Miss Megan Fearon, MLA, & Mr Justin McNulty, MLA. The SEP has given Killean PS state of the art facilities for the children of Killean for this generation and for future generations to come.
