Earth Science Week for P6 & P7
Earth Science Week, October 2018
To celebrate Earth Science Week, Newry Mourne and Down District Council, in conjunction with the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland, is hosting a ‘Science Festival’ in a number of locations throughout the District.
The Science Festival will focus on the extremely diverse geology and landscape of the three AONBs of the Mournes, Ring of Gullion and Strangford Lough & Lecale which will be included in a potential bid for UNESCO Global Geopark status. The Science Festival will give pupils the opportunity to learn about how the geology and landscape formed through a series of interactive workshops. The planned activities include: exploding volcanoes, predicting earthquakes, making (and tasting) your own toothpaste, glacier racing, rock detectives, and a fossil factory. Each pupil will have the opportunity to carry out ALL of the activities.
