Dromintee Tournament

14th Jun 2023

On Tuesday, our boys and girls were invited to the Dromintee Tournament in memory of Bernie O'Rourke, an important member of the Dromintee parish and school community.

As the sun shone in the sky, the boys and girls did their school proud, displaying incredible determination and skill in each of their group matches, each progressing onto the semi-finals.

The girls team made of our P7 and P6 girls were brilliant throughout, beating several schools to progress and were narrowly beaten in the semi-final by Glassdrummond by 2 points. The girls were a credit to themselves and to the school, working as a team and most importantly having fun the whole way. Girls we could not be prouder of you. A special mention to the girls team, many of these players experienced Gaelic football for the first time this year, having done absolutely fantastically to develop the skills needed for the game, showing the hard work, they have put in to learn this game has paid off. In such a short period of time, this girls team may not won have a trophy but have achieved a love for the game, which is one of the most important aspects to playing Gaelic football.

The boys team again consisting of our P7 and P6 boys, came up against some very strong opponents and several times came from behind to snatch victory, allowing them to progress to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals after a nail-biting match, the match went to extra time, with the boys winning by a point when the whistle blew. In the final they came up against a very determined and solid Dromintee side, who were excellent. Unfortunately, the boys were beaten by 1 point. This boys team should be so proud of themselves not just today but for everything they achieved this year, they have made history and will be remembered and spoken about for years to come. Boys we could not be prouder of you all.

Thank you to all the parents who came out to support the children, not just on Tuesday, but throughout the year, we really appreciate all the support from the sidelines.

This marked the end of the Gaelic for the school year but as a school it was important, that each child had the opportunity to practise their skills and to have fun most importantly - that is what Gaelic football is all about.
